Bad News Comes Good

January 1, 2013
When we receive some bad news, very often it affects us physically, we begin to shake, recoil and may even get the sweats and become cold. This is shock. Even if it is relatively unimportant in the larger scheme of things, it can still affect us at a very deep level.
Why?
We are reacting from an old place. It is not our adult that is suddenly panic stricken – it is our helpless child. As adults we can cope with anything – yes I truly believe this, it is only when we regress into an old outdated conditioned response that things go pear shaped. Expectation also plays a part in this – we expect everything to be rosy and flow freely and so when that doesn’t happen (it’s called life!) we forget all our coping strategies and fall limp and lifeless to the floor.
My advice? Go with that reaction, just for a while, nurture and honour it because your inner child needs to be held and respected. Then kick some ass! Choose anger over depression and really get that energy moving. Use this apparently bad situation to highlight other strategies and opportunities that you may not have considered before.
Who are you? What makes you tick? How can you help others with your skills? What area of your life feels out of balance? Has this ‘bad’ news shone a great big spotlight on that?
The silver lining.
I really love this saying… every cloud has a silver lining. Sure when you are engulfed by the negativity of the rain and smog – you can see sweet FA but all it takes is one downpour (remember choosing anger – pour it out safely) and then the sunshine comes. The silver lining. Another way to look at this is surrender, for when we truly surrender to the events that are unfolding, there is nil resistance and thus nil struggle – whatever the situation is. This applies to everything in our lives. Everything.
Surrender is key.
Until next time and whatever you are being – may this be present.
