Channelling Creativity

January 10, 2014

To lead a balanced life and to stave off those mood swings and to prevent anxiety (we hope) it is very important to keep those creative juices flowing. I know myself that when I don’t write (that doesn’t happen very often, actually) I begin, very quickly, to feel grumpy, frustrated and stagnant. If I allow that to fester for longer than a millisecond, I then start to feel depressed.

Creativity isn’t just about writing, it can be whatever you want it to be. Here are a few examples of activities that get those moods balanced and life back into flow again:

Cooking

Walking

Writing

Sex

Art –

Painting

Drawing

Sketching

Sculpting

Installations

You name it.

Acting

Music –

Singing

Playing an instrument

Jamming

Listening to music

Again: YOU NAME IT.

Or simply:

Breathing in the scenery

Whatever works for you but let me just tell you this: Sometimes I have to FORCE myself to do it. I can sit on my bed, which is also my sofa/chair/table (I still have no furniture in my flat, I can’t afford it yet J) for a few moments and start to feel that lull – that horrid melancholic pull downwards that means only one thing – I must must must do something creative – Now.

So I do.

And I do feel much better very quickly. In fact, it’s 1am right now and just thirty minutes ago I was feeling slightly low. Last night was the same but I ignored it and went to bed. Then I couldn’t sleep and when I did sleep I got nightmares. Tonight I am listening to my own inner voice. Right now I am trusting my intuition and channelling my creative juices. I am in flow.

I hope this helps you to be in flow. I also hope that, should you decide to, the previous and forthcoming posts containing healing and therapeutic practices help to keep you in flow – even if that means sitting in the eye of the storm. Storms are simply a part of the ups and downs of life – the chaos before the calm – the destruction before the rebirth.

Channelling creativity is also harnessing the power of the storm-force winds.

Take a breath…

Now go for it.

Much love,

Matt xx
