Taking in the Scenery

January 25, 2014

I was on the bus today and for some reason, as the buildings whizzed by, a phrase that many of my mentors and teachers have used also whizzed through my mind ‘You never stop to smell the flowers’. My instant thought was: ‘What flowers?’

I am yearning for something.

Money for one. Yes, shallow I know but money equals security and I yearn for it. I am tired of waiting. Waiting for a better apartment, waiting for that book deal, waiting for the better social circle, waiting for the successful theatre production, waiting for… and just before you say: ‘Well you do know you need to do something about it’ – I do, every single day, I take action in order to move my life forward but then this phrase returns: ‘You never stop to smell the flowers’.

What flowers?

Again my response comes: ‘What flowers?’

Can you see them?

Can you smell them?

I would very much appreciate it if you could point them out to me.

I ask this of you because I am convinced, within the very heart of me – that the moment I take in the scenery, the scene that surrounds me, the flowers that bloom all around me – the moment I actually see these – as they really are – then, and only then, will Glory be manifest.

I await your reply,

Your loyal friend,

Matt Chase xx
